Constant Contact works out of the box without touching your DNS — which is exactly the problem. Without self-authentication, every campaign is signed by Constant Contact's shared domain: your own domain builds no sending reputation, and under Gmail and Yahoo's 2024 bulk-sender rules, unauthenticated bulk mail is progressively junked. Self-authentication (Account → Advanced settings) gives you CNAME records that let Constant Contact sign as YOUR domain, with key rotation handled for you.

A caveat we'd rather state than hide: Constant Contact issues record names per account, so a fixed check like this one probes the commonly issued names. If we find them, you're verifiably set up. If we don't, that can mean either 'not set up' or 'set up under account-specific names' — we'll say so plainly, and the full check of your SPF, DMARC, MX and blocklists is exact either way.

How Constant Contact setups actually fail

Self-authentication never enabled

The default state, and the most common. Campaigns send fine — from Constant Contact's reputation, not yours. If you've never visited Advanced settings → Add self-authentication, this is your setup, and it's the first thing to fix.

The TXT variant with a stale key

Constant Contact offers a DKIM TXT option alongside the recommended CNAMEs. TXT keys don't rotate automatically — if the key was replaced account-side and your DNS still serves the old one, signatures fail quietly. The CNAME method avoids the whole class of problem.

DMARC missing on the sending domain

Whatever Constant Contact signs, DMARC on your domain is yours to publish and now table stakes for bulk senders. v=DMARC1; p=none at _dmarc.yourdomain.com is the compliant starting point.

Why are my Constant Contact emails going to spam?

The most likely cause is sending without self-authentication, so your campaigns carry Constant Contact's shared reputation instead of your domain's. Enable self-authentication with CNAME records in Account → Advanced settings, publish a DMARC record, and verify your SPF and MX are healthy — this checker covers the domain side in one pass.

How do I self-authenticate my domain in Constant Contact?

My Account → Advanced settings → Add self-authentication → choose 'Self-authenticate using DKIM CNAME records', then add the records shown to your DNS exactly as given and click Check status after they propagate (up to 24–48 hours).

Why can't this tool always see my Constant Contact records?

Constant Contact assigns record names per account rather than one fixed name for everyone. We probe the commonly issued names; if yours differ, our 'not found at the usual names' result just means you should compare the names in your Constant Contact settings against your DNS — the rest of the report is exact regardless.

Does Constant Contact require DMARC?

Gmail and Yahoo do, for bulk senders, since February 2024 — which in practice makes it required for any list of size. Constant Contact recommends it and it's one TXT record on your domain.
